Thank you :)

I have less than 300Kgs but I'm trying to get everything within a 100 and sell all the rest so I can just use Airmail via Australia Post. It is quite expensive but it's door to door so hopefully will save the hassle of customs clearance in India.

Thanks again! Good work with this site!!

Hi Aditya,
If you have time you could put your items in gumtree.
Also if you would like to ship them to India you need to find out the rates with shipping.
As far as I know if you can pack everything to fit in a container of 400kg it will work out cheaper for you.
Don't forget that you may need to pay other duty in India too.

Good Luck

Depends on your taste & budget.

My favourite is Nilgiri at St. Leonards & Spice of India at Harris Park.
Since your tags are "dosa" & "masala dosa", I think you will enjoy Malabar at Crows Nest.

This website rates food - http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney/

Hi there,

I just got my citizenship and I renewed my PR once.
When you just got your PR, you can renew it (that's called a Resident Return Visa) after five years. But you need to be in Australia to renew it.
If you get your citizenship here and apply for an OCI (Overseas citizen of India) visa, you will have the best of both the worlds :)

Hope that helps.

I agree with KK. Don't listen to the media, both Sydney and Melbourne are fantastic places. Melbourne is beautiful and friendlier than Sydney. But Sydney has more job opportunities and higher pay scale (since the cost of living is higher).
Being a S/W engg you shouldn't have a problem in either of the places, however I would suggest you get a job or at least line up a few interviews before you come. This would help you settle quicker and also help you to find a suburb closer to your work place.
For job ops, check http://www.seek.com.au
In Australia, everything is managed online, so don't be surprised if people quote you websites for everything :)
If you need more help let me know. I'll try and get more info.

Hi Raiye,
Its very difficult to find a job staying outside of Australia.
Unless you know some one inside that company that guarantees about you.
If I were you I prefer to come here and start applying instead of waiting for those kind of opportunities.
Now here in Sydney there are lot of opportunities for programmers.

Last time when I came to Australia in 2007 I found that it was difficult to give interviews outside India. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Opra,
I have a similar case like yours. I got my PR in 2006 and after one entry I came back to India. Now I want to settle there permanently with my 2 year old daugther. Do you have any info regarding how much time it took for your daughter to get her visa.
Thanks in advance.

From my experience employers value local experience, and more importantly how you present yourself. Make sure you talk smartly in interviews and avoid making up stuff in interviews as they can see through you. If there is something that you do not know it is better to admit it.
Also another important thing is your resume. Keep it as simple as possible and well presented. If your resume is hard to read it is likely that it will not be read.

All the best :)

If you don't mind may I know which area (interms of Indian community and safety) in Melbourne would be good to start off as I am completely clueless about Australia?

There are lot of us (coming from AP) in Melbourne and in Sydney.
If you have good working experience and confidence you will definitely get a nice job here.

Dear Editor,

I am planning to move to Melbourne in next 3-4 months time from India. My office will be in Docklands. I will be shifting with my wife and baby daughter. Pls advice:
- Which suburb should i look for a place where indian community stays
- What are the average rental rates in Melbourne
- Is it actually safe to move in Melbourne, what with attacks and all that
- What typically will be the average cost of living for a young family like us, wife is a home maker
- We are religious by nature, are there hindu temples and festivals celebrated in Melbourne

Abhishek

Hi..KK

Thank you for your valuable inputs. I am in contact with TAFE and just finding out any bridging courses for our skills.

Could you please let me know how to verify our resumes are equivalent to Australian Standards? Will spending on Resume Writers will be useful?

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Keep in touch

Hi Shiva Prakash,
Coincidentally my brother in law is in same situation. He has 5 years exp in construction.
People suggested him to get some course here in TAFE or some where to get an apprentice job to start with. Then you can use your experience to move up.
Its very hard in Australia to get a first job.

Good Luck,
